Composition of Powder Coatings

Powder coatings are generally composed of resins, curing agents, pigments, fillers and additives, similar to the main components of solvent-based and water-based coatings.

1) There are two kinds of resin: thermoplastic resin and thermosetting resin. Powder coatings composed of thermoplastic resin do not need curing agent, but thermosetting powder coatings need curing agent. 2) Pigment is also an important part of powder coatings. General powder coatings contain pigments, only transparent powder coatings do not need pigments. Pigment in powder coatings plays the same role as traditional coatings, mainly playing the role of decoration and rust prevention after coloring.
3) The function of filler in powder coatings is basically the same as that of traditional coatings, which can increase the hardness and rigidity of coatings and reduce the cost of coatings.
4) Additives are also an indispensable part of powder coatings. Although the proportion of additives in powder coatings is very small, its role can not be ignored. Sometimes it plays a decisive role in the appearance or performance of coatings.
