How to Avoid Agglomeration of Powder Coatings

2021-07-05

Powder coating is a kind of coating product with caking tendency at a certain temperature, which is widely used in some industries. The caking tendency of powder coating is mainly because the resin and leveling agent in the coating will soften when heated. So in the process of using powder coating, how should we avoid coating caking?

Methods to Solve Agglomeration of Powder Coatings:

1) In the production of polyester resin, some alcohols or acids which can increase the glass transition temperature of polyester resin or reduce the amount of alcohols which can reduce the glass transition temperature of polyester resin are selected to increase the glass transition temperature of polyester resin.
2) In the formulation design of powder coatings, the amount of low glass transition temperature polymers, such as leveling agent and brightener, should be reduced to ensure that the glass transition temperature of the coating system will not decrease.
3) In terms of production, the broken pieces should be fully cooled before entering the grinding process. When grinding, it is necessary to reduce the feeding speed and increase the induced air volume to control the grinding temperature.
