Selection Of Different Metal Pigments For Metal Powder Coatings

Metal pigments have many color products, which greatly enrich the varieties and decoration of powder coatings. Commonly used metal pigment varieties are: aluminum silver powder pigment, pearlescent pigment, copper gold powder pigment, etc.

1) Aluminum silver powder aluminum powder has floating type, easy to float to the surface, as long as stearic acid surface treatment, not weather resistant. This kind of fine aluminum powder is used to make mirror silver, and the surface should be covered with bright powder. In addition, there are non floating and ultra-high power aluminum silver powders, and the coating varieties of different aluminum silver powders are listed. The advantage of aluminum silver powder lies in its strong metal texture and simple material. The defects are single color and poor chemical resistance.

2) Pearlescent pigments are inorganic pigments, which are composed of mica chips and coated with metal oxides with high refractive index, such as titanium dioxide and iron oxide. Metal oxide with high refractive index, mica chip with low refractive index and surrounding medium with low refractive index are placed in parallel to produce visible rainbow color. The advantage of pearlescent powder is that it has more pearlescent pink and good chemical resistance. Its defect is that the metal texture is not strong and the distance is too large compared with aluminum powder.

3) Copper gold powder pigment copper gold powder is a kind of metal pigment with flake structure, which is made of copper zinc alloy by special mechanical processing and surface chemical treatment. It can float in the bonding process, present golden luster and have pigment properties.
The advantage of copper powder is that it has more copper pink and strong metal sensitivity. Its defects are poor chemical resistance, serious specific gravity, large dosage, poor temperature resistance and weather resistance.
