Properties of Raw Materials for Thermosetting Powder Coatings

Thermosetting powder coating is composed of resin, curing agent, pigment, filler and other additives. In addition to the importance of resin and curing agent selection, there are also certain requirements for the selection of pigments and fillers.

1. Selection of pigments for thermosetting powder coating materials:
The pigments and fillers in powder coatings can not react with other components in the process of consumption, preparation and storage, and have good thermal and light stability. The pigments for powder coatings shall meet the following conditions:

2) The film has good thermal stability during curing.
3) It has good light stability, chemical resistance and solvent resistance.
4) No color penetration, no frost and no migration in the coating.
5) The color does not change with other components.
6) It does not promote the aging of resin.
7) In the hot melt state of the resin, the dispersion is good.
8) Good coloring power and covering power.

2. The selection of filler for thermosetting powder coating material:
The addition of fillers in the formula of powder coatings also has the function of modification, such as adjusting the film flatness, gloss and physical and mechanical properties. The selection requirements for fillers are as follows:
1) It is easy to disperse and has good activity.
2) It does not contain foreign matters that affect the quality of the coating.
3) No harmful chemical reaction with other components.
4) The physical and mechanical properties of the coating are not reduced.
5) The physical and mechanical properties of the coating are not reduced.
